If you haven’t been up on our Facebook feed lately, let me catch you up… We have our Spring Showcase coming up this Sunday the 15th. What is Spring Showcase? It’s the evening when our students show off the routines they’ve been working on for the past few months. It’s when we all gather to dance, cheer, enjoy a great show, celebrate our students’ accomplishments, and chow down on an amazing dinner at the Ritz Charles. In short, it’s our favorite day of the year!

Stepping up to participate in a showcase can be a scary thing. We get it. We also know there is no better feeling than setting a goal, working towards it, and seeing a dream through to a reality with your peers alongside cheering you on! So what motivates us to get over our fears and get out there and dance a routine? Although simply cutting loose on a dance floor is fun in its own right, performing a showcase piece allows us to tell a story with our dance. We get to pick a song that moves us, we add our personal flavor and expression, and we design a piece that is special because it has meaning to us. We have the opportunity to create a fun and lasting memory. With the practice and repetition it takes to learn a routine, comes fluidity, confidence, comfort, mastery and poise that all dancers covet. And, perhaps of a bit more benefit to ladies than men, is the bonus benefit of having the perfect excuse to buy that cute new pair of dance shoes we’ve been eying…and, of course, the matching dress and earring!

We’re just beyond excited for our Showcase on Sunday and we can’t wait to watch our students shine! We’re so proud of all of them! And p.s., it’s not too late to get your ticket, so call the studio to reserve your spot for what’s sure to be an amazing night! We’ll see you Sunday!

Salsa is a Latin dance with origins from the Cuban Son (circa 1920s) and Afro-Cuban dance (specifically Afro-Cuban rumba). It is generally associated with the salsa music style, although it may be danced under other types of Latin music.

Salsa is normally a partner dance, although there are forms such as a line dance form “Salsa suelta”, where the dancers dance individually and a round dance form “Rueda de Casino” where multiple couples exchange partners in a circle. Salsa can be improvised or performed with a set routine.

Salsa is a popular social dance throughout Latin America as well as in North America, Europe, Australia, and some countries in Asia and the Middle East.

The passion of the salsa dancer is unparalleled; rich, overflowing, mad — and quickly becoming one of the most organized & professional street dances in the world. This is the kind of dance that is both internalized and externalized. Salsa is nothing without a least a little wow factor, but salsa is also nothing if you can’t just lose yourself in the music and dance like nobody’s watching.

The Salsa Congresses and professional dance companies continue to raise the bar in terms of technical skill, creativity and that wow factor. At the same time, salsa began and continues to simmer its own subtle variations in style and personalities in the night-clubs. The average salsero or salsera can go to any major city in the world and find a salsa club or community adding to this dance’s international appeal.
